Jonah’s Anger. God’s Relentless Grace. Jonah 4

23-0924: God confronts our rebellious heart with His relentless grace to invite us to trust His steadfast love and rest in His sovereign plan. In this last chapter we learn the motive that made Jonah run, he didn’t want God to save the Ninevites. Jonah grows exceedingly angry with God. God confronts him in his anger but not in the way one might imagine. God shows great love and patience toward Jonah. He commands more of creation to use as an object lesson but Jonah only seems to grow more indignant. When the chapter ends the story is not over. The reader is left wondering and wanting the final chapter of resolution where Jonah comes around, but it is not there. One reasoning offered for this in his message is that God’s object lesson to Jonah becomes an invitation to the reader. In this message, Pastor Lane identifies three times when one’s tension with God will tempt them to run in rebellion from God, and how knowing God turns one to trust in Him. We pray this message helps and encourages.
