17-0820: Christians persist in prayer and persevere in faithful obedience when we trust in Jesus’ work for us and in us. Jesus is not interested in our practice of religious ritual. He wants us to pray because when we do we commune with the living God, who is our loving heavenly Father. Prayer is much more than only something we do. Prayer opens up our life for God to work in us. Jesus pursues us to bring the full effect of His finished work within us. As we persist in prayer he strengthens us to persevere in faithful obedience.
