Scott Ogden Introduction

I would like to introduce you to Scott Ogden, our most recent candidate for eldership at LifePoint Church. Scott has been a covenant member with LifePoint for over six years, serving in a variety of capacities including hosting Explore LifePoint, greeting, and ushering. He has also led a number of community groups, which he does currently in addition to leading as a Community Group Leader Coach.

The pathway to eldership is a two year process involving theological training, an eldership study, and a season of public observation involving serving among our church body. If you would like to read more on Biblical Eldership, you can read the first of a three posts on eldership here.  The elders of LifePoint Church believe Scott Ogden to be called to and qualified for eldership as well as competent as a leader.

Scott and Arlene have three children, two sons and one daughter. Their youngest son Gus and family live in the Ozark area. They have a total of seven grandchildren to date. Scott is Director of Maintenance at The Baptist Home, a retirement community in Ozark. He enjoys the western lifestyle, which involves horses, cattle and the outdoors. Coaching community group leaders and leading a community group are things that he finds to be particularly fulfilling in his life.
Scott was raised by a single mom in a non-Christian home. He was first introduced to God at a Vacation Bible School around the age of eight or nine. At the age of seventeen He joined the US Army. A friend led Scott to Christ when he was twenty-one, but he strayed away after a year or two. Later Scott left the Army after serving for nine years. A couple years after leaving the Army, he met Arlene and they married in 1988. This coming March they will have been married twenty-seven years! Around 1997 he fully surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Scott feels called to continue following Jesus and serving LifePoint through eldership.

As covenant members of LifePoint Church, you are responsible for the last phase of his eldership candidacy: public examination. This is a season over the next five weeks where you are encouraged to do the following:
  1. Make sure you know him and can follow his leadership.
  2. If there is an issue, contact myself or an elder with your specific issue of concern.
  3. Be prepared to affirm his installation on October 19.

As Scott is preparing to serve our body as an under-shepherd, it is important that you seek God’s guidance in determining if he is called and qualified to fill such a role.

It is my pleasure as a member of LPC and a brother in Christ to affirm and approve Scott as an elder. I’ve known Scott for several years and have watched with joy as he has surrendered his life to this call.
